Prof. Lalas, director of FACET3S, Ltd Consulting, recently completed a successful ten year term as the Director of the National Observatory of Athens. He has devoted most of his professional career to studying the environment, particularly air pollution, wind-energy utilization, and climate-change impacts. He is an advisor to the Greek ministries of Development and Environment regarding climate change and sustainable development, and is on the governing board of the Greek National Center for the Environment and Sustainable Development. He also sits on the separate national committees for Climate Change, Desertification, and Sustainable Development.
Prior to this, Prof. Lalas served as the first president of the Greek National Centre for Renewable Energy Sources, from 1988 to 1991. In 1991, he founded Lamda Technical Ltd., an Athens-based environmental studies consulting company. From 1996 to 1998, he served as chairman of the board of the Greek National Petroleum Corporation.
Prof. Lalas has held faculty positions at universities in the United States and Greece, and has published four books and more than 120 scientific papers.
